Dr. Vaman Nandavar, eminent literary critic and former President of Tulu Sahitya Academy was the chief guest during Annual Day of Besant National PU College for 2016-2017. “Education is not merely gaining knowledge, education is strength,” he said in his address. “Every man and woman has the ability to achieve success and educational institutions too should share the determination to attain it.”

Sri Manel Annappa Nayak, Vice President of Women’s National Education Society welcomed the gathering. Smt. Krupakshi, Senior Lecturer in Commerce introduced the guest. Principal of the college Smt. Ashalatha P. Nayak read the report. Akshay J. Kotian, President of the Student’s Council of the college presented the report of activities of the council.

Commerce Student P. Chetan V. Gavaskar, who had scored the highest marks in the previous year’s Second PU Board exams, was felicitated by the Chief Guest with Gold Medal, citation and cash prize sponsored by the Parent Teachers Association. The students who had scored high marks in the previous year’s First PU Board exams too were honoured with cash prize and certificates by the Parent Teachers Association. The sports talents were also felicitated on the same occasion. Commerce lecturer Smt. Beena K., read out the list of prize winners.

Managing Committee President of the college Sri Kudpi Jagadish Shenoy presided over the function. Correspondent of the college Sri M. Suresh N. Mallya was present. Pratham P. Bhandary, Secretary of the Student’s Council of the college proposed the vote of thanks. Students Nihal, Khatija, Thatrifa, Dilip Vernekar and Shamrina compered the programme. Entertainment programme followed the formal function.

On the previous day a programme was held for various types of prize distribution. Smt. Bharathi Prabhu, President of the Parent Teachers Association and Sri Shyamsundar Kamath, Secretary of the management handed over the prizes and felicitated the students. Principal of the college Smt. Ashalatha P. Nayak presided over the programme. Commerce lecturer Smt. Krupakshi proposed the vote of thanks. Fazila Sheen was the master of ceremonies.
